Error Logs FTW!

Posted May 23rd, 2010 by Christopher in News | No Comments »

Seen below, the wondrous evolution of iGS’s logging - the magical expansion of complication, and the ever increasing number of errors. Not necessarily related, it just errors out at everything other than a full payment (refunds, partial checkout, etc).

And that’s all you get today, just working on backend stuff, maybe frontend tomorrow…

EDIT: Error checking’s a bitch. No wonder I never did any at uni…

Hibernation Time

Posted May 20th, 2010 by Christopher in News | No Comments »

And on the 697th day, iG rested. For at least a week, maybe too. One shall not return until one has a viable, working, ready to go eCom solution. Even if it takes 40 days and 40 nights I’ll whip that PHP and MySQL in to shape, and I won’t be back ’til it’s done. Hopefully along with a nifty Royal Mail account for the ever so handy PacketPost service, a few new operating procedures to make everything quicker (still no employees though…), and hopefully some decent advertising. How much is a slot in Official PSM these days anyway?

EDIT: Looks better already… EDIT 2: Wootwoot, menu. EDIT 3: OMG, tis OBA! Almost as hard to get as a bank account. £15,000 credit limit too!

EDIT 4: Confused? It *just* about makes sense to me… lots of backend debugging. Almost enough to make you wanna go back to pure HTML sites. Happy days…

Why your game store sucks.

This is what the collective v-tailers of Hull fill their floors with:

Space Pricind DVD! My 2nd.. 3rd… Or maybe 4th favourite show as a kid For the knockdown price of £5 too. I’ve never even seen these for sale before, even whilst collecting their figures. Don’t do too badly on eBay, but I’m sure I’ll keep these, my sister’ll love em.

Rock-Guitar Lip-Star Hero

Aggrgrawrerbnhllhhw. Huh? Wha? Oh yeah. That’s the sound of a Game Group orgasm.

Ok, plus something from Sweden, I didn’t desimate the *entire* store… No, I don’t know what I’m talking about either. One thing I do know - Best. Store Display. Ever. (just need a store to put em in) :D That and my bank account’s looking quite the unhappy.

Store Mock-Up

You’re just gonna love the collapsable fade-in stock lists :) AFAIK, all features can be implemented pretty easy, so I just need to find more time… Meanwhile, 130+ items sent to the eBay servers yesterday. Jesus I died twice during that lot… Next week, hopefully, a more managable double digit PS2 game collection.

Reader Count ++

Reader count = 3. Hopefully. Welcome all. Here’s some interesting iG related links:

inaudible Games Price Charts - UK video game eBay price tracking. Highlight is a near-complete list of UK Dreamcast releases. Only Caesar’s Palace 2000 yet to find a price. Either that’s a damn rare game, or a damn bad one. Or both.

iG eBay Sales - Everything from Buzz Hollywood Quiz in Swedish language (and *only* swedish language, just incase you thought the english version was too easy :) ) to Pokemon rucksacks to Parappa to Resonance of Fate to Rock-Guitar-DJ-Hero-In-A-Coffin (thanks miss lady GS for another fuckoff massive box to carry home oh what joy).

iGPC Mobile Search - works best with RedLaser on the iPhone, but you can use it anywhere with a barcode, so long as it’s one of the (quite badly limited) games listed on iGPC.

Video Game Price Charts - The US version of iGPC ;) Something like that… JJ Hendriks = my idol. Check out the presumably-linked-to-vgpc-prices JJGames.com too. If you’re American or the like.

iG’s PS Price List - Nearly 2000 PS2 and PS1 prices, updated between 2008 and 2010. Now expired in favour of iGPC, but still useful for quick price checking.

The Game Collection - My favourite UK based online game store. Issues fixed in a single e-mail, and 3 for £20 deals that could keep any budding v-tailer in profitable stock for months ;) .

The Crimea - the world’s nicest guy in the world’s best band. Whilst I had a life, I also ran this once-semi-official website for them. Now accruing 1 news post a year. Kinda like this blog. Which you really shouldn’t read. Just crap and pokemon bags and the odd rant about GAME Group plc.

iG Store - Well, it don’t exist. Yet. 70 hour weeks don’t leave much room for hacking together random bits of PHP you know? This screenshot is as close as you get for now. Look how pretty it is with all its sorted-by-condition goods. Hours that took me. 12 of them. Just to sort one damn list by 2 numbers… :| expect a completed site in 2019. By which time I may just have completed FF IX too. Now where’s me chocobo…

Looking for a job? - Video games related and fun fun fun! Oh so much fun cleaning and testing and packing and pricing 12 hours a day :| Apply here, if you haven’t been put off already.

E-Mail: inaudiblegames@gmail.com
Tel: 01904 898111
Etc etc.

Store room shenanigans.

Well. I severely underestermated the number of people reading this blog. Apparently, reader count = 2. My mum, and some bloke from GameStation York. The same amount as products in the all new, all Beta, iG Store.

igstore

Yes, it still sucks, but boy you wouldn’t believe the size of the SQL query to generate that. Anyway, new readers, leave some damn comments. Stop scaring me with your random rl aproaches. And buy some shit. Or don’t, just check the store floor, jesus someone has some bad pricing schemes. Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness GC? £9.99? *faints*. Whatever next… MGS 3 Subsistence 98p @ GAME? It’ll happen…

stock

So the last pic didn’t do it justice. Neither does this, but you get the idea. Two huge boxes full of PS2 games (actually, there’s 60 odd more out of shot), loadsa PC games underneathe them, boxes of various accessories to the right, a wardrobe full of auctions (and receipts), PS1/DS stacked on top, and shelves full of untested stock. Any more and I’ll need to, like, employ someone (job offer’s still open, btw ;) ).

gamesdomain

Remember this? 10 years ago, for some reason, I was compeled to print off websites. Before anyone actually knew what to do with those weird white texty 3-minute-to-load book like mazes. Like, read them. Anyway, above is the version that’s been sat in a cupboard for a decage. But if you do just want the real version, check it out at http://web.archive.org/web/19991012164830/http://gamesdomain.co.uk/index.html . Circa my birthday, 1999. Oh, happy days. When GTA was 2D. Fifa 2000 went gold. And Final Fantasy VIII was “set to be one of the biggest Playstation games of the year”. Speaking of which…

ff8

You know what, I might just sent that off with my entry to the address. May be 11 years late, but I’m sure someone at SCEE will apreciate the effort :) Hang on…. what the hell was the question anyways? Ok back to work. More Resonance of Fate to pack… Holy crap 10 items in the last hour? That’s 1 game sold every 10 minutes people! Can’t keep up :( Job? Anyone?

Hot tip.
