Big update this week, got lazy and stuff. Last Saturday’s town trip then:
Nothing too good, highlight being Blockbuster’s multiple copies of SingStar 1 on PS3 in their 3 for £10 deals :o) Lowlight is another example of GameStation’s “custom built game and console refurbishing centre” and “rigorous checking system” for games being utter bullshit. Took me 30 seconds to verify some data unreadable. Still, there’s a light at the end of this tunnel, so read on…
Last Sunday’s carboot. And Sunday’s last carboot. Or at least for my favourite one, which has shut up for the year. So for the final day I grabbed everything in sight, and prayed it’d tide me over until next year. Yeah, right. Still, here’s the lowdown:
Lowlights:
- Me yet again attempting “worst dealer ever” award, paying twice as much as the quoted price for a game. Only 50p more like, and Sonic GameGear games are always worth £1, surely?
- Last decent car boot of the year. So where to go now? The answer follows shortly..
Highlights:
- Another copy of Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, for around £1.
- Gitaroo Man for the PS2 for £2. Parappa eat your heart out…
- Zelda Collector’s ed promo boxed, ~£4.
- And something I read about on my new favourite rare gaming item blog GameSniped - Pokemon Box. Ironically though, without it’s box, and with a Pokemon Stadium one instead. Not quite worth the $100 quoted on GS then, but maybe more than th £4 paid.
- Oh, and, for £15, this:
Will you ever see another boxed Atari Jaguar again? I didn’t think I would after turning one down for £18 two weeks ago. In fact, I turned down *this* one, and hoped to hell the guy would return. Two weeks later, at £3 less, and having seen some eBay ones go for ~£40, it didn’t stay unsold for much longer
Anyways, a week later and I hit the town again on Friday. At this point I’m desperate as my stock shelves consist of about 3 cracks PS1 cases and a set of Pokemon hair bobbles. So, finding another Pokemon XD for GameCube in GameStation again is always good, as is yet another toy pinball machine find. Cept this one is A.Mazing. No ball, just LEDs acting as one. Seriously, it’s the coolest pinball machine ever; the lights even react like a ball, seemingly moving faster if you whack the flippers harder, and being held in place behind the flipper when you hold it up. I gotta post a youtube vid sometime… Oh and a weird Halo 3 canvas painting found in a charity shop for £1.50. I dunno if it’s some cheap chinese print or some kid’s GCSE work, but it was unique enough to buy anyway. Anyone seen these for sale elsewhere?
I did have one ace up my sleeve though. The local primary school’s car boot this morning. First one of these I went to, I picked up a SuperPlexus, PS2 wheel and Happy Feet game. Second time I got a bit better with a PS2 console and a load of PS1 games. Today, well, I said that GameStation’s messed up Bomberman had a light at the end of the tunnel… found another copy today for a couple pounds
Along with all the kids games (and the VSmile seems to be pretty pricey online), and a nice present for my sister (apparently the mirror is meant to represent the 4 seasons, I just thought the girls were cute), I’ve managed to fill my shelf with DualShock controllers again. Meh…
Oh and, then I found out about another car boot. On a Saturday. Today. At 10.30, when I thought I was done for the week. And it’s been running ALL GOD DAMN YEAR ON SATURDAY and no one told me! All those wasted weekends… ah well, Mark always said it was shit for games. So I went to check it out.
So much for a few months of rest. Bloody 6pm and I’ve hardly touchedany of this weeks listing work since Thursday. So…
Highlights:
- Bloody. Moonwalker. FFS Mark! Shit for games? Only the most talked about game of the damn year. Ok ok, it’s the Jap version - presumably why no one noticed in the box of MD games over the 5 hours the sale had been running before I turned up. Which unfortunately means I don’t get the pleasure of playing the world’s most freakiest yet coolest games. But I doubt the value will change much - will loose a bid for unplayability, then gain some for rarity. £2 should convert nicely.
- Final Fantasy IX. I’ve now bought all 3 FF PS1 games at least once since boot hoarding began last autumn. That’s about the best that can be said for this lot, unboxed and scratched most likely beyond repair. £1.50 just for the lulz.
- Yes, that is a PS2 Network Adapter you see. Only downside is for £3, I may be silly enough to keep it ![]()
- Possibly the Commodore lot. I would have passed but they were asking £5 the lot, and I got em for £3. Most games are kiddy Postman Pad / Punch & Judy types, but there’s the odd Rambo and TopGun though the Star Wars box was empty. Plus the heaviest PSU I’ve ever seen. Makes me actually like the GameCube one.
- And 2 GameGears + games + AC adapter for £10. The price was probably the best bit…
Lowlights:
- …as I had a feeling they wouldn’t work. And, well, I was half right. One has a messed up screen (like, light interferance, like interferance made up of lighter coloured parts, anyone know a fix?) and the other has no sound. I’m thinking it may hopefully be easy to strip em, and just swap the LCDs around, and get one fully working GG and one with no sound and a fecked screen. In fact, I may know a guy in Leeds who’s always selling these things with sound caps replaced…
- And those GameBoys won’t work either, as they’re from the same guy, but still, for £1 each maybe I can use some for spares. Oh and the Network Adapter was from the same place too. I just figured it’s surely not the kinda thing that can easily go wrong?
- And in general, my hopes of a quite Winter sale period has just decreased a little. Maybe I’ll just move city and be done with it.
