Catching Up

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. And I have. One rare console. One year of searching. One picked up. Then two more turn up within weeks. If you ever doubted it with the saturn….

Even better, they were free. FREE! Won the RF adapter for one off eBay for a dollar, went to collect and the guy clearly couldn’t be bothered taking money, so handed it over free. And although he had no controllers, he did have “two consoles in the shed… Do you want them?”. Hell yes. Now I just need two more av leads and some controllers, and I’m all saturned out :)

Then there was the extended weekly town center hoard. I went back to some charity stores I haven’t been to for a month, didn’t find much, other than possibly the single most personally interesting item so far. Any guesses? (and remember I’m a late 90s RPGer).

The Art Of Final Fantasy IX – official Squaresoft Brady Games collection of FF9 concept art and renders. For £2.00. Just, amazing. Almost makes up for not asking for that huge FF IX promo poster I saw being taken down (and no doubt inevitably chucked) from a road side advertising hoarding around 2000. Here’s some more pics:

Ok, time for last week’s Sunday ‘booting:

Highlight: What do you think? Look closely… yes. It gets better though. FF VII, MGS and Curse Of Monkey Island were all on the same stall. You know how much the first is worth, MGS is around a tenner, and I told you a couple weeks back about Monkey Island PC games. So I nearly died when the guy asked for 50p each for them. FIFTY PEAS! O. M. G. I looked at him with a puzzled look, then gave him a fiver. He looked at me with a puzzled look. I ran away. Feeling generous yet greedy as hell at the same time.

Ok, ok. Highlights:

  • Boxed N64 for a fiver, with Mario 64 and Goldeneye. Saw Mark this week and he says he had boxed Zelda and Donkey Kongs off the same guy for the same price before I got there. Upside is he said they were asking £30 for the console at that point :)
  • GameBoy SP, my first one, for a tenner. with 3 games, accessories, boxed with charger. It’s beautiful… and pink. Beggers etc…
  • Another dreamcast. I swear I’ll get bored of finding these soon…
  • And, just maybe, some Atari games. Took me a week to figure out they’re 2600 ones, wtf is with their damn naming, it’s worse than Nvidia / ATI’s. 5600, 7800, 20900, 4950124723598…. meh.
  • HOLY CRAP Art Of FFIX £76.30 on amazon! ok ok sidetracked…
  • Yeah, those atari games, £3 each plus a NES cleaning kit for £1, practically new. Oldest games I’ve ever bought I think.

Lowlights:

  • More gameboy games. They’ll never sell…
  • Plucky’s Big Adventure for PS1. Aparently hella crap game.
  • It’s feckin pink. PINK! With a god damn felt dog on top!
  • £3 each for atari games, maybe not so good…
  • And will I *ever* find a dreamcast VMU with working batteries? Oh well, I just got 10 CR2032s for two squid off ebay. Should last, oh… 3 minutes.
