After a long week of hoarding…

Before I start, a welcome. To all those who’ve turned up here unanounced and unprovoked, all two of you, I salute you good sirs. Yes, I’m finnaly getting people getting here from the god of search – Google. And they’re even offering to sell me stuff. Blimey, I thought it’d never happen. One day I may even be able to stop going out an searching for goods myself. Alsa, that day was not yesterday. So here’s what I nabbed from the ‘boots on Sunday, and some multi-buys on Saturday. There’d be a few more but they pending a, god fobid, return to GAME for a faulty disc. If you’ve read the archives, you know how that turns out.

multibuysps2sAnyway, on with the list. Saturday’s multibuys to the left. The exciting stuff’s in the return list unfortunately so no pics yet. And I so hope God Of War is worth more than £3.33 as I pretty much cleared out GameStation’s stock :) To the right, eBay. A bunch of “spares / repair” consoles from a lovely couple and, from previous experience, sometimes these things actually work. Hell, so long as two DS2s are working I make my money back :)

So, to the hoards. Yesterday was beautifully sunny, and inevitably the world and their goods came out to sell, probably the biggest car boot of the year so far. Luckily I learnt my lesson at the start of the summer and had nearly £200 on me, so the only problem was getting through the stalls in less than 5 hours. After 30 minutes just hitting the first 1/8 of stalls, it weren’t looking good :) Hoard wise though, amazing. More PS1′s than you can shake a dual shock at, and a load of PS2s too. My old/new hoarding mate/aquaintance Marc turned up too, ready to grab anything I didn’t, or vice versa. Anyways I ‘ll get on with the lists…

hoard1090809Started with a load of PS1 and PS2 games, all around £1 each. Find of the day though goes to Final Fanyasy VI, disc only in another game’s case, alone in a box with a bunch of CD singles. Asking price, 50p. I don’t care if it’s sleeve only, the widely regarded best-ever FF is worth that any day. What more it’s worth I’ve never dared to check. Marc tipped me off on a bunch of £1 only Xbox games too. He obviously ain’t noticed it’s the £12-sale-value crystal controllers that are worth much more :)

hoard2090809More PS1 goodness, this one would suck as Battle Arena Toshinden has no disc in it, but it was only £3, plus it had a composite adapter for the Gun-Con 2 I got elsewhere which didn’t. So that saves me £3 buying one. Which makes the PS1 free :) Plus, I just loved the white coloured original controller, never seen one outside the 90s. Then there’s the original GameBoy for ~£2, just sold one for 10 times that, and this came with games and random half-broken accessories. A PaperBoy Tiger Electronics handheld that looks just like the old Sonic one I had was a nice find, and after selling almost all my Official UK Playstation Magazine demos last year (just before I got in to hoarding games) yet keeping the mags, I later regreted it. So finding a box full of the things @ 10p each, and convincing them to sell the lot for £2 was another find that I won’t be selling this time round ;)

hoard3090809Another PS1! I said there were lots, didn’t I? This one was asking ~£8, think I got them to £6. It had a load of disc only games, which would mean nothing if it weren’t for the pedigree – Abe’s Odyssee, another Hogs Of War (my hot tip for future sale value, HoW 2 should maybe possible be out sometime soon), Spyro The Dragon, Rayman, Worms…

hoard4090809A couple weeks ago I picked up original Escape From Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 PC games for £2. I was later to find out the original Secret Of Monkey Island had just got a re-make/release, and the two originals just sold for £20 each. So, on the back of that, more PC game dabling. Except this time I sucked and Tie Fighter is worth £3 less than the £3 I paid, while Lemming’s best sale value of £1 only pulls 20p more than I paid. Discworld Noir may be a little better, though no where near it’s PS1 bretheren. On the other hand, picking up Wonder Boy for the Master System wasn’t bad, and I really should check out what BT HomeHub 2.0s are selling for if I keep buying them. If nothing else, at least they look beautiful :)

saturnAnd finally, something I’ve been searching long and hard for. And you know how it’s now written in law that after searching for something for a year and finding it, multiples turn up within weeks of each other? Well they really better this time, as my newly purchased Sega Saturn (!) alas had no cables or controllers. I did check the rear I/O ports and luckily it just takes a regular figure-8 power cable, and what did look just like a Mega Drive 9-Pin Mini-DIN plug but alas, I’m not that much of an expert and it’s actually an (extrememly rare) 10-pin mini-DIN with completely different pinout. So much for trying that out then. Still, for an asking price of £1 I figured the box alone was worth that (seriously). saturnspecsGetting them down to 50p was probably just taking the piss, but what can you do? It’s probably broke anyway. But I love it all the same, plus you gotta love the packaging details. Ok, the fact it uses a 68EC000 and can gouraud shade, or just the fact they let you know this, mightn’t be too interesting for the regular game player, but the geeks will/would/did love it. :)
